I am sure he would be quite cross with you if he heard you describe yourself as less important.

Also, have you not considered that if you are able to have a frank discussion on this matter with him, you may be able to help him shoulder the burdens he is carrying right now?

I do not think that keeping your silence does either one of you any favors in this situation.
