Summer Festival in the MGU

Wherever you are, whoever you are, one minute you’re at home minding your own business and the next you’ll see a shower of sparkles before you blink and find yourself teleported elsewhere.

The elsewhere, it seems, is an open grounds lined with stalls, pathways and gardens. Lanterns light up the pathways in soft glowing oranges and pinks, and even though it’s evening the weather is warm and enjoyable for a fun summer festival.

As you set off to explore, you’ll find that there are countless stalls with every type of treat you can imagine from a variety of cultures (including some from your own home worlds, strangely), all of which smell delicious and enticing. There are other stalls available with different carnival games as well. Go ahead and give it your all! Win a prize for that special someone, or just keep trying out of sheer stubbornness. Other stalls seem to be selling wares such as clothing, household items, flowers, and other things that can be given away as gifts. It seems that every time you look around, a new stall opens, almost as if this festival is responding to your every wish.

Speaking of wishes, there’s a small cluster of bamboo trees nearby as well, tables set up with baskets of arts and crafts supplies to write your wishes on the colorful paper and tie them to a branch. It’s a sweet thought, no?

And of course, what’s a festival without fireworks? Every now and then fireworks will light up the night sky, bursts of color in fun shapes such as stars, hearts, faces of people you know, whatever! Sparklers and bubble wands can also be found to play with throughout the evening near the viewing gardens. Flowers bloom and cover the area, though the paths lead to several small alcove-like areas and gazebos for those of you who wish to have a little romantic privacy. No matter where you are though, you’ll always be able to see the starry night sky.

Do try to play along and enjoy yourself for the evening. It’s only when the last firework bursts several hours later that you can actually leave anyway. Have fun!

[ well, nothing says interesting quite like being transported to a random place at the blink of an eye! it looks like it's probably not murder related this time, at least, but xie lian has never been anything if not the type of person to just go with the flow - it's probably fine? so! the atmosphere here is wonderful, anyway, and very lively, reminding xie lian very much of the revelry of ghost city.

that, and the food smells amazing! so. found on his own, xie lian wanders through the festival over to a stall and is presented with a skewer of delicious smelling meat. he looks delighted, thanking the person running the shower with a proper bow, and then slips back into the crowd to resume his curious wandering.

of course, he is xie lian, so therefore, he makes it about five steps before someone bumps into him from behind, and he loses his grip on his skewer. ] Oh - !

[ and it falls in the dirt with a sad little plop - before he can even kneel down to try and grab it, someone even steps on it. xie lian's left crouching down kind of sadly before his treat.

there's a pause. xie lian picks up the skewer and the remains of what's on it, turns his hand a little to inspect the damage... brushes it off....

and then just resumes eating it.

[a hand curls around xie lian's wrist. shi qingxuan, who has grabbed him, looks scandalized.]

Your Highness, really, there's no need for that, we can just find you another one...

[dianxias]

[ xie lian, with the stick in his mouth, turns around when his wrist is grabbed - and then looks very surprised? enough that the stick falls out of his mouth and he has to scrabble to catch it again. ]

...yes? Who else would I be?

[a beat.]

Oh, were you expecting the Lord Windmaster? I could change, I suppose, but that's less fun.

Ah - no. Well, sort of, you - [ xie lian starts, and stops, and starts again, and then stops -- and then just smiles and ducks his head, shaking it as he reaches over to put his hand gently on top of hers. ]

...I'm just happy to see you, that's all. Are you alright?

[ah.

there's a bit of recognition in her expression, as she watches him try to figure out what to say, and then the look on her face softens a little.]

...I'm just fine. I've been well, Your Highness, there's no need to worry about me.

[dawnblushed]

[im not tagging you twice with WHY ARE YOU EATING FOOD OFF THE GROUND so here's yona in the distance, too far away to notice what he's eating but close enough to spot him in the crowd.

she waves energetically.]

Xie Lian! Xie Lian, over here!

[dianxias]

[ oh!!!! he brightens up immediately!!! ]

Miss Yona, hello!! [ he's finished his floor food by the time yona comes over, so, he smiles at her, putting his fist to his hand to greet her properly. ] How good to see you!

[dawnblushed]

It's good to see you too! I wasn't sure what to expect with all of this, but it feels like a party, doesn't it?

[she beams]

Have you tried any of the games yet?

Aha...I've mostly just been eating. [ shocking no one

yea his breadsleeves are full of fair food rn. anyway: ]

Have you, Miss Yona? What sort of games are there?

[dawnblushed]

I have! There are all kinds of them - there's one where you have to hit something with a mallet so it'll ring a bell! Only, I think it's rigged, because no matter how hard anyone hits it, it won't go up far enough to ring it...

[she frowns]

I kind of want to try it.

[whirlingmace]

[ sees the skewer fall.

sees him pick it up and starts to eat it. ]

That's not fair. Cinquey is always told no by everyone else whenever I do that.

[dianxias]

[ who is cinquey.....

as he's like, eating his floor food. ]

...ah, well, I'm not usually around many other people! [ that's so sad ] But, I also have a stronger constitution than most, so I've eaten plenty of food that's been trampled on... I think it's alright, as long as you don't wait too long, for most people? Did Miss Lup call it the five second rule...?

Ah! So, I should only do it when no one is around?

[ She will remember that. ]

How long is too long anyways?

[ cinque this is the wrost person to ask this question of ]

...That's a good question! I think it's different for me...? I can eat anything. [ bad ] But, people usually aren't supposed to eat anything with mold on it? Unless it's the kind of mold you're supposed to eat.

...so, if it's moldy, it's probably bad! Otherwise, if it's a little squished, it's still salvageable, I think.

I see. Then so long as it's not moldy, then I can eat it.

[like she's scolding a dog:] Xie Lian! Get that out of your mouth! Right now!

Lalli absolutely sees all of this, and he just. Stares at Xie Lian. Not saying anything at first.

But if he manages to catch Xie Lian's eye, he will give him a small nod. 5 second rule, XL is fine.]

[ oh!!! this person is nodding at him. xie lian pops the rest of the food into his mouth, and then smiles, very thankfully. he then puts his fist to his hand to bow politely in greeting when he realizes he's not being scolded. ]

Best not to waste food, no?

[ gasps but she isn't rude enough to slap it out of his hand ]

You can just get another one, mister! You don't know where this ground has been!

[ welp. she, um. looks a little distressed about xl eating food off the ground, but that's xie lian for you! at any rate, she has a smile for him as she wanders over, pointedly avoiding looking at his ground snack. ]
