Summer Festival in the MGU

Wherever you are, whoever you are, one minute you’re at home minding your own business and the next you’ll see a shower of sparkles before you blink and find yourself teleported elsewhere.

The elsewhere, it seems, is an open grounds lined with stalls, pathways and gardens. Lanterns light up the pathways in soft glowing oranges and pinks, and even though it’s evening the weather is warm and enjoyable for a fun summer festival.

As you set off to explore, you’ll find that there are countless stalls with every type of treat you can imagine from a variety of cultures (including some from your own home worlds, strangely), all of which smell delicious and enticing. There are other stalls available with different carnival games as well. Go ahead and give it your all! Win a prize for that special someone, or just keep trying out of sheer stubbornness. Other stalls seem to be selling wares such as clothing, household items, flowers, and other things that can be given away as gifts. It seems that every time you look around, a new stall opens, almost as if this festival is responding to your every wish.

Speaking of wishes, there’s a small cluster of bamboo trees nearby as well, tables set up with baskets of arts and crafts supplies to write your wishes on the colorful paper and tie them to a branch. It’s a sweet thought, no?

And of course, what’s a festival without fireworks? Every now and then fireworks will light up the night sky, bursts of color in fun shapes such as stars, hearts, faces of people you know, whatever! Sparklers and bubble wands can also be found to play with throughout the evening near the viewing gardens. Flowers bloom and cover the area, though the paths lead to several small alcove-like areas and gazebos for those of you who wish to have a little romantic privacy. No matter where you are though, you’ll always be able to see the starry night sky.

Do try to play along and enjoy yourself for the evening. It’s only when the last firework bursts several hours later that you can actually leave anyway. Have fun!

[Rufus is here, looking much blonder than he did last time, with a haircut and a wardrobe change. Flagged down by a person manning one of the many carnival games in the area, he looks anything but excited to be here. Still, he musters up the wit to make a pitch.]

Rufus ignores the person at the game booth to face Alex, looking far less irritated than he did just a second ago. Please stop touching.]

[ too late, she already did. but she does make a little apologetic "eep" sound. ]

It is you! [ alex did you just touch a guys hair without knowing if you actually knew them. ] You look so different, Rufus.

[ hello it's nice to see you too! ]

As long as I'm identifiable, it shouldn't be a problem.

Well, now I'm talking to you, yes. But I might've missed you in a crowd -- it's quite a striking change.

Rest assured. If you were my client, I wouldn't have missed you.

[That is, she wouldn't have to worry about missing him when he'd be the one to find her.]

Oh! Is that what you were offering? I just thought you were signaling someone down for a snack - all of the food here is free, Rufus! It's quite wonderful.

[Neither is what he was doing, but that's not important. Free food is. While his expression remains the same, there's a glint in his eyes.]

[ nods enthusiastically ]

And from all sorts of places! I thought perhaps I would store some and bring it back with me, whenever this.... well, I suppose I don't know what this is? But whenever this is over, then I'd have some to eat later! Would you like to join me?

[soulus]

[He ponders this for all of a second. His lips curl into a small smile.]

If it's free, I can't refuse.

[ she's.


not looking at his hair specifically. everyone is allowed to have their hair lightened??? everyone has gone through some changes!!! nice to know that some things don't change, at least? ]

[soulus]

[Sometimes magical genes lighten hair for free.]

It was an offer to the stall worker. Are you interested in a prize?

[ casually eyes a stuffed fox. ]

I don't need anything.

[ still eyeing a stuffed fox. ]

[She forgets that he has eyes—and both are visible now that his hair isn't covering the one.

He turns away from the booth.]

[ he does. they both do. but we're not here to talk about that so instead— ]

D, don't turn away from me! Aren't you at least going to say "hi" or something?

[ sobs in izumo. ]

[She just happens to be standing relative to the booth in a way that puts his back also to her. But he doesn't walk away just yet. Rather than hello, he extends an invitation:]

How do they even know you would be worth the expenses? I think you should show that you got the skills first.

My rates speak for my skills. Moreover, for a job of this nature, a free demonstration is as good as rendering service without payment.

It doesn't speak for anything. You could be overcharging to pay off your dye job. [ SO SKETCHY ] Besides, these games are pretty tricky.

. . . The games are fixed, of course. In order to ensure that they're rigged as intended, a test run will save them more in the long run.

Dodging the hair talk. You know, that looks even more suspicious. Why did your change it, anyways? Did you piss people off?

[He looks at her with what can be described as an anticipatory expression. Give him an incentive to speak, and he will.]
