Jingle Mingle...2

Some of you may be used to this by now. For some of you, this may be your very first time being swept away in a flurry of snowflakes. (Though some of you may have been particularly naughty and were shoved into a burlap sack before disappearing into the storm.) As usual, it seems as though the time for bloodshed has passed and when you open your eyes you're greeted with...

...a ski lodge.

Worry not! This isn't the lodge Krampus had taken residence in but it's a rather large and cozy getaway. You may even find that your clothes have changed into something holiday-appropriate for the occasion. It seems as though someone has gone around decking the halls with boughs of holly, lights strewn along the walls, Christmas trees in large corners, and plenty of food and drink to go around. (Yes, this includes alcohol. Please do try to be responsible though, hm?)

Similarly, some of you may recognize the frosty patterns that lightly dust the walls and surfaces and the usual staff and their assistants are back in action. Should you require anything, you may ask one of them and they'll be at your service!

The lodge has plenty of rooms filled with furniture, fireplaces, games and more. And for those of you feeling a little more adventurous, you may venture outdoors. To the left there's a sprawling garden with gazebos, firepits, flowers and lit topiary displays. To the right, you may follow the path down to a hot spring. And straight ahead? There's the path leading you right to a rental shack holding skis, snowboards and snow mobiles.

This almost seems...quaint, doesn't it? And perhaps it's a little too easy, but you should know by now everything comes with a price.

Sprigs of mistletoe are pinned up in every doorway once again, bright red bows and dustings of frost lingering around them. Don't try to escape to the outdoors to avoid it! Ice sculptures appear in every direction each decorated with the mystical plant. You could try to avoid it, really, but avoiding it too long will earn a chilly breath of air directly in your ear as you're pushed straight into the nearest person. Wouldn't you rather choose on your own?

Well! The choice is yours, and you might want to make it fast. There's no way out without paying the kiss tax, after all.

[ sometimes you just have conversations with animals. who knows, maybe someone will bring a redwall to the next mg? or maybe one of us will finally bring another hatoful. the possibilities are endless. ]

Hmm, more than usual? [ beat. ] You really don't know what we are, do you?

You don't look like an elemental spirit to me, so... No, I'm sorry.

... Should I?

No, I suppose not. I guess it was just us, then...

[ even as vosgetel trails off, her voice, light and clear, keeps a fairly articulate delivery. ]

The other animals you've seen before are just pets, correct?

Usually. I mean, there are monsters back home, but...

Oh - not that I'm saying you look like a monster!

[ she just flaps her wings a little and ruffles her feathers the way that birds do to dislodge one. you know the motion. there's a very faint luminescence (iridescence?) to her plumage not normally seen in the species her form matches, not terribly apparent under the lights, but. hey. ]

I'd hope not. I can understand potentially being mistaken for a Mana, but a monster, honestly.

No, what I am is a daemon.

[ it's unfortunate that daemon is pronounced the same way as demon! and demons are still a monster!!!!

but escha is familiar enough with other worlds now, so she will politely not make this connection. ]

A mana? No, wait, a daemon?

I don't know about either of those...

[ honestly, yeah, she realizes that as soon as she says it since demons sure are a type of monster. also a very funny thing to mention to any of the thots. ]

Daemon, not demon- that is, d-a-e-m-o-n. There's a distinction. We're parts of some of the others here, you could say.

[ it's fine, escha's not a demon (anymore)!!!!

and she just nods very slowly again...

she clearly doesn't understand............ ]

I see... Parts of them, huh?

[ the lights are on, but no one's home... but then again no one else here seems to have (visible) daemons that she's noticed in her flyby appraisal of the place, so...

very patiently, as if to a small child: ]

You know, spirit, soul, body, that sort of thing? We're the soul.

Is it safe for you to be, um, outside of your person's body?!

We were all separated like this a few months ago...?

[ or well, like, she was only around. for a few weeks. because she was gone for most of chasma, but. it still happened a few months ago. ]

During your "game"?

Before it happened. At the beginning of it, I guess you could say?

And you're still split up?

[trickedges]

... It's not painful, if that's what you're concerned about. But I don't think there's any putting us back, at this point.

... Well, as long as it doesn't hurt! That's a big relief.

[ she is not going to mention that it used to hurt to be this far apart, but anyway. ]

I'm a little surprised no one else here has seen anything similar, honestly.

[ but then again the group of them apparently were unique in the worlds they traveled to in that they had daemons. so maybe they really are just a weird minority with visible, embodied souls. ]

[ what escha doesn't know won't hurt her! ]

I think there are pretty big differences between what we've all been through...

Have a lot of people been asking about you?

Hmm, not really. [ primly. ] I don't think too many of them have noticed me. Or perhaps they think I'm like the penguins here?

But you're so pretty.

[ huh. ]

Well, I promise not to ask you to bring me any snacks!

I'd drop them on your head if you did. [ she informs escha, not unkindly. it's a ... joke, maybe? ] But thank you.

[ oh so apparently vosgetel is the part that can actually accept a compliment. she does have to beak through her feathers a bit, though. ]
