Jingle Mingle...2

Some of you may be used to this by now. For some of you, this may be your very first time being swept away in a flurry of snowflakes. (Though some of you may have been particularly naughty and were shoved into a burlap sack before disappearing into the storm.) As usual, it seems as though the time for bloodshed has passed and when you open your eyes you're greeted with...

...a ski lodge.

Worry not! This isn't the lodge Krampus had taken residence in but it's a rather large and cozy getaway. You may even find that your clothes have changed into something holiday-appropriate for the occasion. It seems as though someone has gone around decking the halls with boughs of holly, lights strewn along the walls, Christmas trees in large corners, and plenty of food and drink to go around. (Yes, this includes alcohol. Please do try to be responsible though, hm?)

Similarly, some of you may recognize the frosty patterns that lightly dust the walls and surfaces and the usual staff and their assistants are back in action. Should you require anything, you may ask one of them and they'll be at your service!

The lodge has plenty of rooms filled with furniture, fireplaces, games and more. And for those of you feeling a little more adventurous, you may venture outdoors. To the left there's a sprawling garden with gazebos, firepits, flowers and lit topiary displays. To the right, you may follow the path down to a hot spring. And straight ahead? There's the path leading you right to a rental shack holding skis, snowboards and snow mobiles.

This almost seems...quaint, doesn't it? And perhaps it's a little too easy, but you should know by now everything comes with a price.

Sprigs of mistletoe are pinned up in every doorway once again, bright red bows and dustings of frost lingering around them. Don't try to escape to the outdoors to avoid it! Ice sculptures appear in every direction each decorated with the mystical plant. You could try to avoid it, really, but avoiding it too long will earn a chilly breath of air directly in your ear as you're pushed straight into the nearest person. Wouldn't you rather choose on your own?

Well! The choice is yours, and you might want to make it fast. There's no way out without paying the kiss tax, after all.

I see! Were you involved in overseeing parts of what happened, then? There were some people like that in my group - but really, they were trapped just as much as we were.

Mm. They called us "watchers," and we were supposed to act as guides for everyone. Not that we could do much to help when they wouldn't tell us anything useful, either.

[her brow furrows]

I can only imagine how frustrating that must have been.

I think it was even worst for the actual participants, honestly. Knowing nothing and knowing that someone might kill them or that they could be forced to kill at any moment?

[ shakes his head. ]

I don't know which was worse.

...well, perhaps neither is better nor worse - simply terrible in different ways.

As a participant in mine, I can say that was certainly frustrating for me too... [she sighs.] But knowing things and wanting to help, but being unable to? That would be infuriating! In a "why do I know this if there's nothing I can do" sort of way...

Yeah... both are pretty bad.

What bothers me more is that this kind of situation is so common in the first place, or how it even works. Like... is it possible that someone might not come back from one of these things?

If such a thing is possible, that's not something I've heard of. Things worked out well enough with my group, and that seems to have been the case with people from other groups that I've spoken with, too...

[she frowns]

But it would be better if this sort of thing wasn't happening in the first place.

[ that only eases his mind a little. it could still be possible... but even if it isn't, that still leaves him with no leads on his sister.

It sounds like they aren't even happening for the same reasons. One person said something a "rogue story" - whatever that means - and someone else mentioned a school, but that wasn't what happened with us.

[ he hasn't realized those were the same game yet. ]

[she also does not realize those are the same game. it's fine. she thinks about that, adding the descriptions to her mental list of games she's aware of, and then -

We ended up on a station that was... in space, although even now that's still difficult for me to wrap my mind around. [girl, you're a god, and space travel is weird to you?] Most of our problems were caused by a "furby".

...Those creepy talking dolls from the nineties? Seriously? Aren't those just supposed to be toys?

I suppose so? They don't have them where I come from, so I wouldn't know what they're supposed to be.

[ ...he takes another look at sqx and her clothes and nods slowly. ]

Yeah, you don't look like you're from a modern world. I hope yours never gets furbies. Those things are weird. [ ... ] Never thought they'd actually be murderous, though.

It had better not!

[she, like, probably wouldn't be around by the time furbies would get invented anyway, but. she would like to imagine that it'll never happen.]

If there's anything I've learned from talking to people here, it's that anything can turn out to be murderous no matter unlikely it seems.

What bullshit. As if things aren't bad enough without all the extra, pointless murder. What is anyone even getting out of it?

[she huffs, puffing her cheeks out a little.]

Well, at least from the sound of things, it ends up blowing up in their faces more often than not. But it's really concerning that it's happening so many times in so many places!

[annoyed, she chugs her wine. hm, she'll need a new glass of that.]

[ follows her lead and takes a big gulp of wine. fuck legality and also murder! ]

Killing the angels was supposed to be the end of this stuff.

well. she'll drink to most things. anyway, as she refills her glass (and offers him the bottle in case he'd like for her to top him up) - ]

...well, maybe it was. How long ago was it that you all killed the angels?

[ shakes his head... no thank you. some of us aren't drunks. ]

Uh... Just a few weeks, I guess. But if there's still something that can drag us out to a place like this against our will, I wouldn't hold my breath for ours to be last time it happens.

[eh, more for her.

she takes a long sip and tops herself up before putting the bottle back down.]

Hmm, I thought so. I recognized a some of the faces here that I hadn't seen with my group from a festival we all appeared at a few months ago, but you're entirely new, so I figured your group must be the most recent.

So... yes, it's possible we may still get dragged to places like this, but it's also possible that yours is the last group that will have to face murder.
