your typical hogwarts au post. feel free to post characters from any previous mg, this is a free for all. you can use this to place your character into a house if you're unsure/want to have a crisis.
a) so here we have what at a glance appears to be your standard aloof snake, all prim and properlike. he keeps to himself, doesn't go out of his way to engage people much, and when spoken to he's brisk and distant but polite, ultimately, which is more than can be said of some. he's positively scathing if someone rubs him the wrong way, though, but for whatever reason it seems actually, legitimately difficult for most to do that? either he's more patient than would appear, or he just expects people to be idiots in the first place. either or.
he has the study habits of a library shutin, but more often than not he actually can be found out on the grounds, putting things into practice. funny thing is, he doesn't much ever turn away someone who asks for help and legitimately needs it. just... don't ever ask him for potions tutoring. he's just barely short of being an utter disaster in that subject, merlin knows why.
or,
b) you have what mira calls professor energy julius. a straightforward and calm teacher who more than anything just seems fairly mild-mannered, if a bit teasingly wry or playful while lecturing about various transmutation laws that if it weren't for their existence would make life so much easier for them all, but what can you do? complain to gamp about his fundamental restrictions and exceptions when he's long dead? transfiguration isn't the most engaging subject for everyone, sure, it's very theory and knowledge dense compared to some of the other classes, but he does what he can to keep it interesting enough.
in any case he also always seems to have a sharp eye for any would-be troublemakers, who never seem to go unnoticed somehow. maybe it has something to do with how he's apparently a pretty good duelist when he needs to be? listen, okay, i'm flexible here ]
[Well, it's time to be disaster teens until Thots starts.
Which means flying lessons, clearly. It's the one class newbies seem to crave and everyone else rushes to get to during the day.
Technically, Sasuke should be a Sixth Year. But here he is with the Fifth Years after a year long stint of Things Happening, making him get held back. Just looking at him, it's a wonder he's not wrapped in silver and green like Julius. Clearly, the Sorting Hat made a mistake. Instead, he's strangely wrapped in red and gold; the tie is loose and hanging, but there's no way to escape the Gryffindor emblem and the red interior of the robe.
If he meets Julius' gaze it's briefly and without anything except possibly the slightest bit of recognition.
Today, they get to try a small, mock Quidditch match. This should go completely and totally well.]
there's probably several reasons for Sasuke to glance at Julius with recognition in his eyes. they only go to school together, after all, have done so for the past five years. they may or may not have seen each other in passing, amongst all the general posturing and socializing and schmoozing some of the older families like to do- or it might be for different reasons completely.
in any case, despite titles in canon proclaiming him as the Seeker of Canaan he is not, in fact, the Seeker for his team in this little mock Quidditch match. he's built wrong for it, anyway, streamlined but not slight, not lithe and small like the ideal seeker's build would be.
no, he's a Chaser. one of the most involved roles in the game. this absolutely will go well, what are you talking about. it's a mock game. it can't possibly be as bad as a Gryffindor-Slytherin game for real, house rivalry or no house rivalry. ]
[ Hm? An ice prince that's hard to get close to? It's only natural that Akane would be an exception! After all, she's kind of the opposite mirror of that. She's a little hard to get close to, but she's bubbly and friendly to anyone who talks to her! So it's only natural that she's very popular! And thus, it's only natural that she can just sidle up right next to Julius in the middle of whatever he's doing and expect to be received positively!
It probably helps that she snuck a love potion into his drink at the beginning of the school year. C'est la vie???? She comes up to him and immediately just leans against him. She has never heard of a personal space, except for her own. ]
Haven't we had way too many surprise tests, lately? I'm no good with charms, you know?
I don't really see an issue with the content we've been covering lately, but I suppose you're right that it's been a bit much testing-wise...
[ honestly, as long as they aren't household charms he has decent enough ability in it to get by even if blindsided. on the other hand, for whatever reason, he's never been able to cast a decent scourgify even if his life depended on it. it's a calm and even response- almost distracted sounding, even.
in any case, despite this, he doesn't push her back out of his personal space or anything. it might have been surprising a few months ago, but... as it is, he just continues flipping through the arithmancy notes in front of him, completely unperturbed. ]
[ at the pointedness he blinks, hums a bit, then readjusts his position such that he's a bit more comfy of a lean-to before setting his notes down and glancing over to her. ]
Maybe so, but somehow I don't think that's an argument any of the professors will accept? [ probably? ] Perhaps someone batting their eyes and looking sad might get a little bit of sympathy if they were from one of the other houses, but...

I just deserve more time to really learn it before I should have to be tested on it.
[ You know, how Akane just... Passively deserves things? Right? Yeah! ]
