Jingle Mingle...2

Some of you may be used to this by now. For some of you, this may be your very first time being swept away in a flurry of snowflakes. (Though some of you may have been particularly naughty and were shoved into a burlap sack before disappearing into the storm.) As usual, it seems as though the time for bloodshed has passed and when you open your eyes you're greeted with...

...a ski lodge.

Worry not! This isn't the lodge Krampus had taken residence in but it's a rather large and cozy getaway. You may even find that your clothes have changed into something holiday-appropriate for the occasion. It seems as though someone has gone around decking the halls with boughs of holly, lights strewn along the walls, Christmas trees in large corners, and plenty of food and drink to go around. (Yes, this includes alcohol. Please do try to be responsible though, hm?)

Similarly, some of you may recognize the frosty patterns that lightly dust the walls and surfaces and the usual staff and their assistants are back in action. Should you require anything, you may ask one of them and they'll be at your service!

The lodge has plenty of rooms filled with furniture, fireplaces, games and more. And for those of you feeling a little more adventurous, you may venture outdoors. To the left there's a sprawling garden with gazebos, firepits, flowers and lit topiary displays. To the right, you may follow the path down to a hot spring. And straight ahead? There's the path leading you right to a rental shack holding skis, snowboards and snow mobiles.

This almost seems...quaint, doesn't it? And perhaps it's a little too easy, but you should know by now everything comes with a price.

Sprigs of mistletoe are pinned up in every doorway once again, bright red bows and dustings of frost lingering around them. Don't try to escape to the outdoors to avoid it! Ice sculptures appear in every direction each decorated with the mystical plant. You could try to avoid it, really, but avoiding it too long will earn a chilly breath of air directly in your ear as you're pushed straight into the nearest person. Wouldn't you rather choose on your own?

Well! The choice is yours, and you might want to make it fast. There's no way out without paying the kiss tax, after all.

He waits for Yamato to give Taichi a kiss, and then he leans over to give Taichi a little kiss, too. Technically, Taichi didn't clarify who, and so. Wow, they didn't even need a stupid mistletoe, hate it.]

I'm trying to stay away from them if I can help it. Apparently, people are getting stuck. Like... actually stuck.

[Speaking of stuck.]

...have you guys seen Sora?

[oh. kissies. he's suddenly very appeased, thanks guys! he relaxes into yamato and reaches up to pet the side of riku's face with a free hand. good boyfriends.]

Stuck to what...? [he frowns in thought, and then he frowns in thought again because riku says a name that sounds familiar.] Is Sora supposed to be here?

[that's a no because i refuse to selfcest.]

[ yeah stuck to what!! but!! oh, he isn't selfcesting, so: ]

Yeah. We talked earlier. [ he looks at taichi then ] Riku's right, he's a lot like you.

[ ive been to see him he looks a lot like you etc ]

Stuck in place? Under the mistletoe.

[He's worried Taichi and Yamato thinks he's going to say "stuck to each other" which only makes him embarrassed. Imagine getting stuck to your boyfriends, and then having to WOW kiss them to get out. help he's a virgin]

You talked? About what? [we make ty selfcest (no) BUT ALSO:] I told you.

[he makes a face. he doesn't want to be stuck!]

It'd be easy enough to get out if it was you guys. [some of us aren't giant virgins and like kissing our boyfriends. but he blinks a little.] I hope you mean that in a good way. [but yeah. he wants to know what they talked about too, so he just looks at yamato?]

also god, gossips. he just shrugs at taichi (is it good? a mystery) ]

Just...getting the know you stuff. [ they gossiped about riku. he does not say that. ] He also told me about this place and how it works. Everyone here's been in one of those games.

[ which isn't great. ]

[YAMATO STOP. He just kind of turns slightly red in the cheeks. Please help him from his two very affectionate boyfriends.

He sort of doesn’t think Yamato is telling the whole truth, but it’s fine. A small frown appears on his lips, and he leans on his folded arms over the back of the couch between the two of them.]

Yeah. It’s like the festival. I… don’t know if you guys were there. I looked around until I ran into Sora. He said the people in games like ours… go to random places sometimes.

Sounds nice to… meet friends again, or people who understand, but… knowing how many games are going. I know it bothers him a lot.

[for a split second he laughs a little watching riku blush because, like, it's cute? also it's cute yamato's so blunt about it considering he knows how to embarrass yamato pretty easily. but riku's already talking about something else and so taichi's listening.]

That's...a lot of games. [this is so many people.] Pretty sure this is the first time I've been anywhere like this since we left campus, but it sounds like it might not be the last.

[...that's a wild thing to consider, especially if that means there were a lot of games before them.]

Are they all games like ours? [did every game have a plot hole? maybe they can fix it to stop them from happening ever again.]

[ yeah! he's not thrilled about it either!

but also, more importantly, yamato tugs at riku so he comes join them over on the couch while they talk. thank you. ]

I haven't been anywhere else, either. [ apparently yamato and taichi are tied at the hip o whatever. after a beat he shakes his head ] From what Sora said, they were all different. And we don't know how they start in the first place, or how people are chosen.

[Okay, okay. He was trying to be very cool and lean over the back of the couch like a punk, but…

…he pulls away so he can walk around and sit down with them.]

They’re different, yeah. Sora said his was called the Realm. The person who did it to them was… I don’t know. Someone I think we should both know about maybe. Someone… in a black coat.

[He frowns.]

The Sora here isn’t exactly… my Sora either. It’s Sora, but he’s from our future.

[Sora is Future Trunks.]

[yamato's in the middle, so taichi leans over so that he's partially on him and able to look at riku a little better.]

...a black coat? [...listen they both saw riku's memories so even if they don't quite know the context, it's enough to get the implication that it wasn't great. other things that aren't great though is timeline shenanigans. also i hate you.] If he says he's from the future, are you sure it's really him?

[digimon deals with clones more often than it should, so now he's concerned if this is even really sora at all. that would be terrible for riku?]

It's probably like Beau, Caleb and Molly. They were all from different points in time, right?

[ taichi is worried but yamato actually talked to sora so he isn't? also he is busy grabbing riku's hand and holding it loosely. being in the middle is powerful for people who haven't seen their boyfriend in a while and like physical contact thank ]

Sora didn't mention the black coat, though. But the Realm is... gone now, or something?

[He takes Yamato’s hand and draws himself into a close rest against Yamato so he can, in turn, be closer to Taichi too.

But an expression of worry suddenly breaks across his face at the idea of Sora not being himself. DON’T SCARE HIM LIKE THIS.]

I don’t know… it… seems like Sora. I didn’t know whether to listen at first, but… I told him to tell me what happens. It…

[WELL, he pauses for a long moment, jaw sort of tight. The hand with Yamato’s clenches a bit.]

It doesn’t sound good. At least, not for Sora. […] The Realm is gone, yeah.

[glad this is just a yamato sandwich as usual. taichi seems to calm a little when yamato brings up the timeline thing, but then he's listening to riku and frowning. that. doesn't sound very promising. he doesn't like that riku's worried either.]

That's a start. [goodbye realm.] But maybe there's a chance to fix whatever went wrong? [he. doesn't want to be the one to ask what, exactly, doesn't sound good. that's yamato's job now to determine if now is a good time to push. he's learning how to think of other people's feelings.]

[ he is the filling of this sandwich at all times and that's fine. cuddles for both boyfriends while they talk about sad shit this is actually not that different from them in seasons ]

... Is it anything you can change now, or is it something you'll have to try and fix when it happens? [ how set is that timeline, before yamato pries about it. ]

[Again, he's quiet for a long, thoughtful moment. It seems like he's trying to make sure what he says is actually going to be true, that he hasn't missed something in his worry.]

It'd have to be closer to when it happens, but... I... don't know if I can change it.

[He keeps his eyes down, and they shift slowly back and forth, like he's looking through the couch straight into himself. Finally, he lifts them to look at Yamato and Taichi in turn.]

I don't know if I should. I'm worried changing... what happens to Sora will make something else go wrong.

[well...taichi's always been one to try to fix things. he understands that there are some things you can't change (even if he doesn't like accepting that, and there are things he still sometimes wonders if they could have changed themselves) but he also understand how it's not always a great feeling.]

Okay. So...how can we help? [still no idea what's actually going on, but maybe they can try.]

[ yamato's turn to squeeze riku's hand after that, and he looks at taichi when he speaks. he's the same way with trying to help people, but he'll add; ]

If you're that worried about it making things worse, maybe we can help fix what happens after it does. You've got time to prepare for a solution now, don't you?

[YEAH, SUCKS WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT YOUR BOYFRIEND HUH!!!!

He seems touched by Taichi’s immediate offer, and again glances between the two of them.]

It’s a long story, but… the jist of it is Sora and I get something called the Power of Awakening. Sora has to use his too many times to help the rest of us when things get bad.

But he does it. Of course he does it. All of us, me and all our friends. We’re okay. The worlds are okay. But Sora… [He sighs, yet doesn’t look completely hopeless?] …He stops existing, I think.

But I don’t know if I believe that. Kairi and I… we have to be searching for him. I know we wouldn’t accept that. So I think there might be a way. It only means… I have to let everything happen the way it’s going to happen. I have to watch it happen knowing.

[His gaze shifts to Taichi.]

I might need your help later… when it’s time to find out how to get Sora back.

[HE DOESN'T HAVE TO KNOW THINGS TO BE READY TO FIGHT FOR RIKU. which seems to be true no matter what, but context help. context helps and he lets yamato hold riku's hand but he leans a little closer like his presence alone will help get across the message that they'll do everything they can.

all of that...sounds...bad? it sounds very bad, actually. a person just stops existing just because they used their powers too much? it's not farfetched, but it's not far.]

...when it happens, and when you're ready to try to find him, we'll be there. How long do you have until then? Did he say?

[ it's not farfetched at all, and all yamato can think of is angemon, actually. yamato's grip on riku's hand is tight as he frowns. he agrees with taichi's assessment and questions, so he'll just add his own thoughts ]

If he knows he disappears, then ... does he know where he is? Maybe there's a way to track him down using these events, too.

A year or two more than likely, if things go the same.

[The closeness helps even if he won’t admit it. His thumb rubs Yamato’s fingers and knuckles, not like he’s trying to comfort, but like he’s restless.]

Sora said the first time… he went to the “Final World,” a place somewhere between sleep and death. I think it’s a place where lost hearts go.

I don’t know if he’s there, but we could check if we could get there too. But Sora said… he doesn’t think he’s dead if he still in one piece. The man in the coat from Sora’a game told Sora their hearts are in the same place.

I’m going to find Sora and bring him back, but I don’t trust the man in the coat not to try something. Hitch a ride. Or fight.

That's a long time. [like yeah, no shit, but also that sucks. it sucks knowing the future and having to wait and just letting it happen.]

So the heart and the body are together but they're not necessarily supposed to be? [he doesn't understand everything about kingdom hearts, but he has a vague sense of understanding thanks to that cyoa and also riku being in yamato's heart.] How do you even get there without...y'know. Dying? Is it just like any other world, you think?

[ yamato lets riku does whatever he wants to his hand and leans a little closer, looking pensive. they don't know how kingdom hearts works properly at all, but they're piece mealing a solution anyway. or at least trying to help. he'll continue from taichi's thought; ]

You said Sora mentioned "the first time". So... he's been there before. Did he tell you how he got there? Or how he got out.

[ there's no telling if he is there, considering sora himself wasn't sure, but, y'know. ]

Sora's your priority, so forget about that guy in the black coat for now. If he's trying to lead you guys into a trap, you'll have to deal with it when you get there.

[A year is both so fucking long and so fucking short, Riku knows. He hums a kind of agreement in his throat.]

Sora has been there... at least three times if not more. It's... probably taken a toll on him. If he isn't there anymore, I think he might have... I'm not sure. It sounds crazy, but I think he might have slipped into another place.

He said before he had to put himself back together. I'm not sure what that means exactly.

[But there's a bit of relief hearing Yamato tell him not to worry about the fuck in the black coat. He still will a little, even if Yamato is right.]

Sorry. I didn't mean to dump all of this onto you two right now.
