Jingle Mingle...2

Some of you may be used to this by now. For some of you, this may be your very first time being swept away in a flurry of snowflakes. (Though some of you may have been particularly naughty and were shoved into a burlap sack before disappearing into the storm.) As usual, it seems as though the time for bloodshed has passed and when you open your eyes you're greeted with...

...a ski lodge.

Worry not! This isn't the lodge Krampus had taken residence in but it's a rather large and cozy getaway. You may even find that your clothes have changed into something holiday-appropriate for the occasion. It seems as though someone has gone around decking the halls with boughs of holly, lights strewn along the walls, Christmas trees in large corners, and plenty of food and drink to go around. (Yes, this includes alcohol. Please do try to be responsible though, hm?)

Similarly, some of you may recognize the frosty patterns that lightly dust the walls and surfaces and the usual staff and their assistants are back in action. Should you require anything, you may ask one of them and they'll be at your service!

The lodge has plenty of rooms filled with furniture, fireplaces, games and more. And for those of you feeling a little more adventurous, you may venture outdoors. To the left there's a sprawling garden with gazebos, firepits, flowers and lit topiary displays. To the right, you may follow the path down to a hot spring. And straight ahead? There's the path leading you right to a rental shack holding skis, snowboards and snow mobiles.

This almost seems...quaint, doesn't it? And perhaps it's a little too easy, but you should know by now everything comes with a price.

Sprigs of mistletoe are pinned up in every doorway once again, bright red bows and dustings of frost lingering around them. Don't try to escape to the outdoors to avoid it! Ice sculptures appear in every direction each decorated with the mystical plant. You could try to avoid it, really, but avoiding it too long will earn a chilly breath of air directly in your ear as you're pushed straight into the nearest person. Wouldn't you rather choose on your own?

Well! The choice is yours, and you might want to make it fast. There's no way out without paying the kiss tax, after all.

That's good. I was hoping he didn't actually get hurt too badly while he was there.

[riku said that yamato and taichi were there for him when he needed them most, but he hasn't exactly explained what happened during endgame.]

[ hm. well. technically riku was not there when he got very hurt! it was just his body and he was hitching a ride with yamato! so it's fine ]

I think we all got hurt in some ways in those games, but looking around here... Most of us came out of it alright. Riku included.

[IS THAT FINE.]

Haha, yeah...[said in a way that says he agrees but he hasn't at all explained to anybody just what kind of trouble he got himself into back in the realm.] Everybody seems to have won, at least. I've been wondering if these gatherings are actually supposed to be some kind of reward.

[he's still talking, but he's also still a little concerned about the state of affairs. it's fine. he can multitask.]

It's like I was telling someone else. Even if we went through something horrible, at least we had people with us to help us get through it. That has to count for something. [and it's all the more reason he's glad yamato was there for riku, along with others.]

I don't regret the people I've met or the friends I made during all of that, but... If there's a way to stop it from happening to other people, I'd still want that to happen. [ he cannot romanticize the terrible that happened on campus, despite literally coming out of it with two boyfriends ] If everyone here has won, isn't it possible there are people who haven't that don't get to wind up here?

[ no that's what thots is for but you get the sentiment. he is debbie downer ]

[for a moment he seems to consider yamato. he doesn't say anything, just stares at him for a while like he's trying to find the right words.]

It's not like you're the only one. Of course I want it to stop happening to other people. Other people shouldn't have to go through that kind of hurt. [but sora's still an optimist even when things are the worst...usually.]

It's possible there are people who haven't, but I think...there's always a way to fix things that go wrong. Even if it's not the way you'd think. I dunno. I think that we'll find a way someday but it might be unexpected and it might take a little while. Until then, we can only hope that people keep relying on each other to get through whatever they have to do to.

[ hmmm. there's probably an argument to be made, but yamato does agree with the overall sentiment. (overall, because there's not always a way to fix things that go wrong. unfortunately.) it means after all of that he sighs and smiles lightly ]

Riku was right about you. [ he doesn't expand on that at all! ] Even if it takes a bit, I think we should still be trying our best to fix things like that, for everyone here. But... in the meantime, I guess there's nothing wrong with enjoying the time we do have in these "rewards".

[there's a way to fix things if you sacrifice yourself but that's not always an option so sora doesn't say anything. anyway! he just smiles, a little confused and a little curious. there's a "huh?" sort of noise, but he doesn't pry. riku's business is his own and sora will just bully it out of him later.]

We can definitely agree on that. [but..he gestures around the lodge.] Up for some hot cocoa? You can tell me more about you and Taichi and your world.

[this is not exactly optional but again, genuinely curious!]

anyway yamato looks surprised like sora wanting to get to know him is a big shock but he nods ]

Sure? I don't know that there's that much to tell... but hot cocoa sounds good.

[ he's so fucking cold let him die ]

[temporary fix!! but haha yamato doesn't know anything (as of this thread) so sora can keep his secrets and continue to be content in making a new friend.]

Cool. Come on, this way. [he will lead!] Riku never even told me how old you guys are or anything.

[ wow. he follows, looking to make sure they don't walk into mistletoe because that's illegal ]

Did he tell you anything at all...? [ kidding. but; ] Seventeen. We're second years in high school right now.

[no it's what riku deserves to have one of his boyfriends kiss his not-boyfriend before he gets a chance. but sora seems to know where to go to avoid mistletoe and seek out hot chocolate instead.]

He still gets embarrassed when I mention anything. [which is very funny.] But that's not so bad. You're only a few years older than us...it's kinda been a while since we've been to a real school though.

[which makes it funnier riku went to school and sora got to go to disneyland.]

Yeah, he mentioned that since we wound up in that school for our "game". [ the second they're inside yamato breathes a sigh of relief because the cold Sucks Majorly ] Are you guys ever going to go back to it, with everything happening in all the worlds...?

[inside! he will start to lead them over to a couple of chairs by a fire place, but he does pause to pick up a few cups of cocoa to take with them.]

Maybe! Things are pretty peaceful right now, but who knows how long that'll last? Kairi was going to school for a while but all three of us might have to take another break. It's...just what we have to do to keep everyone safe. You get it. I'm sure there's stuff you guys have had to change in order to keep your world and the digital world safe.

Sure, I guess. [ and he could offer some, but the most recent example included friendicide so instead he will awkwardly sit while sora grabs the hot cocoa ] But... the Digital World stuff isn't as constant, really. Plus there's a lot more of us for a lot less worlds, so we've managed to split our schedules pretty well so far.

[fair and valid. yamato can continue being awkward as sora grabs their drinks, handing one to yamato before settling down in a chair opposite of him and curling up comfortably. they can warm up now.]

Your partners, right? What're they like? Has Riku met them? [he's being nosy because, like, sora by nature is a nosy person but also...he is maybe checking who he is leaving his friend with whenever he goes back to the void.]

Oh, yeah, our Digimon too, but... there's twelve of us chosen in Tokyo alone. [ meiko has moved away and so has to be uncounted ] But no, our partners weren't with us, so he hasn't yet. They didn't get to come here either.

[ he sounds a little sulky at that before he shrugs it off and sounds fond even just thinking about his son; ]

Gabumon's my closest friend. He's a bit shy, but he's strong and loyal, too.

[he sort of stares because like. there's barely twelve of them scattered across the different worlds as it is. but that's...a good thing, maybe, to have so much support.]

That's...a lot of people. [he doesn't quite mean to say it, but it comes out anyway. anyway yamato continues to be sappy about his son and sora looks like it's kind of the nicest thing in the world to hear.]

He sounds really important to you. Do you guys get to see each other a lot?

[ yamato's aware there's not a lot of keyblade wielders comparatively, from what riku said, which is why he mentioned this in the first place! and why he nods at sora's slip of a comment.

at that, though... ]

... Not as much as I'd want to, to be honest. [ he stares at his cocoa cup a little ] The relationship between both of our worlds ... isn't great, right now. And sometimes the gate between both closes for some time without any warning.

That's terrible. [like. immediately stated because this is sora who runs on friendship and not being able to see his friends sucks. he can only imagine how yamato and the others would feel.]

But if the gate closes it can be opened again, can't it? How do you open something like that?

[ uh. hm. well. ]

... It's a little complicated? The gates never stay closed permanently, sometimes it's just... harder to open. It probably has to do with the connections between both worlds. But so long as we have our digivice, we can stay in contact with our partners.

The light devices. [riku did not call them light devices. sora just decided they were devices of light on his own.] But that makes sense. It's similar to the roads and keyholes to each of the worlds, too. Sometimes they just disappear and we can't get back to them at all, or they close and we have to reopen them ourselves.

[but he does seem a little relieved to hear that last part.]

I'm glad you can stay connected though, even if you don't always get to be with them in person.

[ well, holy devices, but close enough. he nods at the keyblade explanation, which he'd gotten a very basic summary of with riku ]

They're our friends. Even when we can't see them, they're always with us. [ first off, pointed out with a small smile ] But... we're hoping someday we'll be able to keep them with us permanently.

[he just. visibly brightens again but he doesn't explain why because yes! exactly! same hat!!! wow okay riku did in fact make good choices in boyfriends.]

I hope you guys manage that, too. They're always in our hearts but...you always belong together.

[which can be said for him and riku and kairi, too, which is why he chooses that moment to take a sip of his cocoa and shut up instead.]

[ sora can shut up all he wants, yamato knows Things. but he sips his own cocoa and mulls over it before; ]

Thanks. [ ... ] I know Riku wants the same thing for the three of you.

[ah. well! well. sora mulls over that himself, keeping his mouth hidden in his mug so yamato can't see him frowning.]

We all do. [he will admit that much.] There's still stuff we have to do, but I think the three of us...["I don't know. There's...something else that happened. But I don't know what it means. I don't think I'm dead if I'm still in one piece, and that guy in the coat that showed up in the Realm said my heart is in the same place as his. Wherever that is. And I know you and Kairi are looking. But I want to go home."]

Someday everything will finally be over for long enough that we can stay together.
