Jingle Mingle...2

Some of you may be used to this by now. For some of you, this may be your very first time being swept away in a flurry of snowflakes. (Though some of you may have been particularly naughty and were shoved into a burlap sack before disappearing into the storm.) As usual, it seems as though the time for bloodshed has passed and when you open your eyes you're greeted with...

...a ski lodge.

Worry not! This isn't the lodge Krampus had taken residence in but it's a rather large and cozy getaway. You may even find that your clothes have changed into something holiday-appropriate for the occasion. It seems as though someone has gone around decking the halls with boughs of holly, lights strewn along the walls, Christmas trees in large corners, and plenty of food and drink to go around. (Yes, this includes alcohol. Please do try to be responsible though, hm?)

Similarly, some of you may recognize the frosty patterns that lightly dust the walls and surfaces and the usual staff and their assistants are back in action. Should you require anything, you may ask one of them and they'll be at your service!

The lodge has plenty of rooms filled with furniture, fireplaces, games and more. And for those of you feeling a little more adventurous, you may venture outdoors. To the left there's a sprawling garden with gazebos, firepits, flowers and lit topiary displays. To the right, you may follow the path down to a hot spring. And straight ahead? There's the path leading you right to a rental shack holding skis, snowboards and snow mobiles.

This almost seems...quaint, doesn't it? And perhaps it's a little too easy, but you should know by now everything comes with a price.

Sprigs of mistletoe are pinned up in every doorway once again, bright red bows and dustings of frost lingering around them. Don't try to escape to the outdoors to avoid it! Ice sculptures appear in every direction each decorated with the mystical plant. You could try to avoid it, really, but avoiding it too long will earn a chilly breath of air directly in your ear as you're pushed straight into the nearest person. Wouldn't you rather choose on your own?

Well! The choice is yours, and you might want to make it fast. There's no way out without paying the kiss tax, after all.

HAS RIKU TOLD HIM??? ]

Yeah. [ a little awkwardly ] I was in his dorm. [ he once hitched a ride in my heart. wow. don't say that. ] He talked about you a lot.

[good question!]

Right. Fall dorm. He told me he and three other people were dorm leaders or whatever and that you and Taichi were with him. [...he tilts his head though.] Hopefully it was all good stuff?

[it's a joke. he doesn't care if riku dunked on him, they're cool.]

... Well, he did compare you to Taichi a lot.

[ which way does that stand for? yes ]

[he.

pauses. for a second. and seems to be thinking over something before he shakes his head.]

No wonder he likes you. You're just as vague as he is.

Vague? He seemed pretty straightforward to me. [ because they're the same and he had no problem reading him, but-- ] It was good. ...Mostly.

[well...he should maybe mention:]

He gets better about it later. The last time I saw Riku...he'd grown up a lot, too. [he's very fond of his best friend and he's glad other people know how great he is. knowing what riku said about sora is less important to him.]

You really helped him out by being there for him. Guess I owe you a thanks.

[ hmm. yamato remembers what he knows about what had happened to riku recently, and he wonders just what kind of growing up sora noticed? he doesn't ask, though ]

You don't have to thank me for any of that. He's a good guy and my--friend, it's normal.

[ very natural pause ]

[...jeez, they're both so stupid. sora continues to scrutinize yamato a little before there's a shrug.]

Yeah, well...he doesn't always think he's a good guy. [idiot.] But he must've done something right if you're both dating him.

[...so yeah, he knows, he's literally just been fucking with yamato for no reason.]

[ wHY WAS HE FUCKING WITH HIM!!! SORA!!!! yamato's eyes narrow a bit (stupid taichi shaped indeed) but he doesn't comment

mostly because he thinks of how riku asked them out again and tries not to die ]

He did something, alright. [ hm. ] He's kind of a mess, sometimes.

[because it's funny?? also because he absolutely made riku tell him he was dating the digis because he even said anything about dating clementine. this is what they both deserve.]

Yeah, he is. [happily agreeing!] Sometimes he does really dumb things and thinks he doesn't deserve certain things, but...I dunno. He's still one of the best people I know. I never wanted him or Kairi to end up in something like these games, but I'm just glad he had other people who would stay with him instead of letting him run away or anything.

[ hmmm. yamato shrugs a little, because that does track with riku-- but, more importantly; ]

I don't think he wanted you to wind up in one of those, either. [ there's a critical look over sora, like he can check up on him For riku to see if the mg left any marks? reflexive when yamato and taichi were literally scarred, it's fine ] He was probably worried when you told him.

[ he probably still is, yamato does not amend ]

[the easygoing smile flickers briefly at that. sora doesn't exactly have any physical marks that are visible, but he does grow a little more serious upon hearing that. the slight difference between sora and taichi is that sora is more open to actually explaining things and admitting to things than taichi is. taichi might have said "what makes you think i told him", but sora only nods.]

We talked. I told him a little about what happened in the Realm and he told me about campus. [...] He worries about things a lot even if he doesn't say so. But being around you two probably helps.

You think so? [ yamato says it like he hadn't thought of that as an option. well. he hadn't, really; ] He missed you a lot while we were there. I'm glad you guys got to talk.

[ yamato and riku might be similar but yamato is definitely more earnest, sry ]

Heh. Know so. [he's the riku expert here, but...ah.] ...I missed him, too. It's kind of been a while since we've seen each other. We kind of had a lot to catch up on.

[but he doesn't want to make this about him and riku, so he's quick to follow that up with something else.]

I was hoping to meet you and Taichi someday anyway.

[ he-- has some questions to that, because from what riku said that had not been the case, but it has been some months since? hm. anyway the comment makes him smile ]

We were looking forward to meeting you, too. [ he looks around and shrugs ] Taichi's around somewhere...

[ and sora will never meet him because selfcest ]

[and yamato may never know because riku may never tell him. it's fine. they're doing great.]

I'll catch up with him later. These things usually last for a while anyway, so we have a lot of time together.

... They do?

[ doesn't he get dragged to alternate worlds enough ]

So you've been to these a few times, then?

[not enough. suffer.]

Yeah. That's how I found out Riku was even sent to his own game. We met at a festival last summer. Or...[...] I'm not sure how the time all works, but it was definitely summer wherever we were. And before that there was a Christmas party kind of like this one. Everybody who shows up to these things are people who've been in situations like ours.

[ hrm. yamato looks around at the people bustling, and; ]

Everybody? That's a lot of people going through that.

[ vaguely wondering if it's like being chosen, but with more murder-- exponential through the years... wow... ]

Yeah, that's what I said. But it's true. Everyone I've talked to has that one thing in common, and all of the games are different. I don't know who's causing these things to happen, but...there's even more of you now. So that means they're still going to happen no matter what.

[and that's annoying as hell.]

... At least if they're all different, that means the ones we've done are still solved. [ probably. ] I don't like this, but without direct contact with the "games" as they happen, there's probably not much we can do about it.

[ they could barely do things in their own damn school ]

I don't know about you guys, but we couldn't go back to the Realm even if we wanted to. Once we solved everything and finished the last round, and once we all got our memories back, that was it.

[but there's a frown as he thinks.] I've been wondering for a while how the games are decided. Who gets called to them and stuff. You guys probably just woke up on campus without knowing how you got there, right?

Campus is gone, yeah.

[ and that. hm. well. ]

... Yeah, though that's not that weird for us. It's-- some kind of higher being making the call, usually.

Yeah, that's probably true. [destiny and all... ] But that's right. Riku said something about you guys being protectors of a digital world or something?

Yeah. [ well, sort of, but there's no point in getting hung up on word choice? ] Though there's only one digital world back home. We were chosen as kids to help save both from dark forces.
